Ants Across America is the inaugural ride of the Ants Across the World project.
Australia is currently one of the world leaders in Alzheimer’s research and now there is a fantastic opportunity for individuals and leading companies to help cure Alzheimer’s by having a member of their staff join us in September 2012 riding a Harley Davidson Motorcycle on the Alzheimer’s Ants across America
Network Challenge through some of USA’s most beautiful and historic regions.
This programme will benefit you, your company and the staff that participate by giving them a lifetime opportunity to network and be motivated by this unique event.
The Event:
Day 01: Thursday, September 13th 2012
Depart Australia to Las Vegas Nevada, USA crossing the international date line and arriving on the same day around lunchtime. Upon arrival at McCarran International Airport, Las Vegas, Ants will be transferred to our hotel via private coach where they will have a few hours free time to rest or, in most cases, enjoy the sights and sounds of Sin City. Ants and EagleRider Tour leaders will meet in a private banquet room at the hotel for introductions, itinerary review, safety briefing and motorcycle rental paperwork. Following the meeting the group will make the short walk down the Las Vegas strip to the Harley Davidson Café for our official Welcome Dinner in a private upstairs area of the restaurant. This will be a great time for Ants to all share a meal and a drink while getting to know their fellow riders.
Day 02:
Friday, September 14th
Las Vegas Day Ride to Hoover Dam (80 miles)

Today we put rubber to the pavement for the first time as the Alzheimer’s Ants Across America! We will split the group into smaller units of 15 bikes and depart the hotel for EagleRider Las Vegas in thirty minute intervals, with the first group leaving at 7:30am. Each group will then make the 40 mile each way ride to Hoover Dam, one of the great man made wonders of the world.
The short 80 mile round trip ride allows for EagleRider Tour Leaders to effectively evaluate the riding level of each rider and group, while also allowing each Ant to gain a good level of comfort with their motorcycle and fellow riders. The group will be back at the hotel early in the afternoon. This will allow the Ants to enjoy a day by the pool or, more likely, another trip through the incredible sights and sounds of Las Vegas.
Day 03:
Saturday, September 15th
Las Vegas to Kingman, Arizona (156 miles)

Say goodbye to Las Vegas as we rumble down The Strip on our way to pick up the never ending expanse of HWY 95 that cuts a path through the lonely Nevada desert. Soon we carve our way through a deep mountain pass that opens up to the banks of the Colorado River, the dividing line between the states of Nevada and Arizona. Our major stop for the day is the Arizona ghost town of Oatman, known for the pack of wild donkeys that roam the streets in search of some shade or maybe a sandwich from the pocket of an unsuspecting tourist. Oatman was once a thriving gold mining town in the 1800’s. In the 1940’s Oatman became an important town along the newly formed Route 66.
Today, the gold veins have run dry, but the town still looks like it did over 100 years ago, only today horses and pack mules have been replaced by Harley Davidsons. We’ll have plenty of time to pan for gold, shop and pose for photos with the town’s famous donkeys before making the short ride into Kingman, Arizona for the night. Kingman remains a major stop along Historic Route 66 and tonight we’ll enjoy a great American meal in an old fashioned Route 66 diner before settling in at a local watering hole for some great live music.
Day 04:
Sunday, September 16th
Grand Canyon Whitewater and Skywalk

Get ready for an incredible day of adventure in, on and around one of the Seven Wonders of the World! This is quite possibly the most action packed and scenic day anyone could ever put together in the Grand Canyon. The day kicks off with a short 30 minute private coach ride from Kingman to the Hualapai River Runners offices in Peach Springs, Arizona, part of the Hualapai Indian Reservation. From Peach Springs we start our adventure with a ride down a winding dirt road that ends at the canyon floor along the shores of the Colorado.

Now Ants get to experience what most people only dream of, a whitewater rafting trip through the heart of the mighty Grand Canyon. This raft trip alternates between exhilerating rapids and long, lazy floats through scenery that will leave you speechless. Ants will enjoy cooling off under the waters of a lush waterfall and eat lunch on their own piece of secluded paradise of the canyon floor.
What’s next? How about a helicopter ride from the canyon floor to the West Rim! Each Ant will enjoy this breathtaking helicopter ride before touching down and boarding a bus that takes us straight to the Skywalk, before finishing the day with stops to view Eagle Point and Guano Point. We’ll end our day with a relaxing coach ride back to the hotel in Kingman where we can all reflect on a day that is beyond description.
Day 05:
Monday, September 17th
Kingman, Arizona to Flagstaff, AZ (166 miles)

Today we get our kicks on 166 miles of Route 66! Whether it is “The Mother Road”, “The Main Street of America”, or just plain old “66”, there is not a stretch of road anywhere in the world that conjures up such strong feelings of nostalgia and history than Route 66. Today Ants get the full EagleRider 66 experience. The state of Arizona has done an incredible job preserving and promoting as much of the original stretches of 66 as possible in towns such as Hackberry, Peach Springs, Seligman and, of course, Flagstaff. You will feel like you've stepped back in time as we roll past 66 era diners, gas stations, motels and attractions. Ants will have lunch at the famous Road Kill Café, and maybe a few of us will be lucky enough to get a straight razor shave from Angel Delgadillo at his shop in Seligman. Our ride ends in the beautiful mountain town of Flagstaff, Arizona where we will enjoy the historic and vibrant downtown area.
Day 06:
Tuesday, September 18th
Flagstaff to Monument Valley, Utah (185 miles)

Today the Ants will get an early start out of Flagstaff so we can squeeze everything that daylight has to offer us on this incredible day. We’ll start just outside of Flagstaff with a ride through Sunset Crater National Monument where Ants who are “Easyrider” fans will instantly recognize much of the scenery from when the movie filmed here. Next we will ride out through the Arizona plateaus and alongside some of the most stunning red rock you have ever seen.
The riding today is amazing, but the highlight will most definitely be what we
experience at the end of the day.
We’ll stop at our hotel in Kayenta to drop off the bikes before a convoy of open air transports from the Navajo Nation comes to whisk the group away for an incredible experience with this proud nation inside the wonder of Monument Valley. Ants will be treated to a private escorted tour inside the valley where we will stop often to stand in awe at these incredible formations. Our day will wind down with a meal of Navajo Tacos by a roaring fire under the shadow of one of the great monuments. As the sun falls and night sets in we will be treated to a traditional Navajo ceremony of song and dance. We promise you have never
seen as many stars as you will tonight, and that you will feel a deep connection with this land and the proud Navajo people when this once in a lifetime experience is complete.
Day 07:
Wednesday, September 19th
Monument Valley to Page, Arizona (105 miles)

This morning we will say goodbye to our Navajo friends and make our way towards the warm air and inviting waters of Lake Powell. With the mystic towers of Monument Valley shrinking from view in our mirrors, we will ride along the painted red clay of the Arizona plateaus, stopping often to bask in the warm September air. For those feeling extra adventurous today we will take a couple of groups out very early in the morning so we can make Page in time for the noon tour into the heart of Antelope Canyon.
This little known place is a photographer’s dream, with rays of light cutting through deep canyon walls overhead to create some of the most fantastic natural light displays you have ever seen. For those favoring a later start and a more relaxed riding pace we’ll take our time on this short ride, but still arrive at our hotel in Page in time for an early afternoon swim and some sun bathing before dinner. Tonight the Ants will enjoy a private lake cruise with dinner
and drinks under the stars.
Day 08:
Thursday, September 20th
Page to Springdale, Utah (160 miles)

The Ants have enjoyed some incredible riding days thus far and, suffice to say, today will be no exception. We’ll head due south out of Page before making a sharp turn northwest to cross the Grand Canyon over one of the most stunning bridges in the United States, the Navajo Bridge. To say this is a visually stunning crossing is a massive understatement! The Navajo Bridge crosses the Colorado River and Grand Canyon at an area called Marble Canyon, where the waters below are a beautiful mix of vibrant green and blue.
What makes this crossing even more spectacular is the pedestrian section of the bridge that allows us to stand in the middle and gaze in awe at the surrounding scenery. The ride through the northwest portion of Grand Canyon is simply amazing as the road leads us almost directly to the entrance to Zion National Park, a series of deep canyon walls that is no less stunning than anything we have seen thus far. Tonight we enjoy the small mountain town of Springdale nestled under the shadows of the high canyon walls of Zion.
Day 9:
Friday, September 21st - Also World Alzheimer’s Day
Springdale to Las Vegas, Nevada (163 miles)

This is the last day in what has surely been an epic journey through some of the most breathtaking landscape in the western United States. We will wind down our journey with a lazy ride through the southern part of Utah before crossing back in to Nevada and, of course, Las Vegas for our final night together. The Ants will drop our bikes at EagleRider Las Vegas and hit the hotel to clean up, relax
around the pool or try our luck at the tables before an incredible final group celebration and dinner at the Hard Rock Café.
Tonight we will take the opportunity to enjoy the company of new friends to reflect on what we have accomplished over the past nine days and the fight for a worthy cause that brought us all together - curing Alzheimer’s with Professor Ralph Martins in attendance.
